Car Aircon Regas & Repair FAQs
Practical answers about our mobile service, prices and booking process, so you know what to expect before we arrive.
Choosing a service and understanding prices
Why does car air conditioning need a regas service?
Your air conditioning uses refrigerant to carry heat out of the cabin. If the refrigerant level falls, cooling performance can drop, especially in Perth’s hot weather. Small amounts of R134a can escape through rubber hoses and connections over time, while a fault can cause a larger leak. A regas restores the correct refrigerant charge; the included inspection and performance test help check the system’s condition and cooling. Any leak found needs repair before regassing. We recommend servicing every two years to help maintain peak performance. See our mobile aircon regas service for details.
Should I book an inspection or a regas?
Book an A/C Inspection if your aircon needs diagnosis or a repair quote. If you are booking a regas, the inspection is already included. See our regas services and full service inclusions to choose the right option.
How much does mobile car aircon regas cost in Perth?
Our Inspection is $119, R134a Regas starts from $249 and Premium Regas starts from $289. Premium includes the regas service and a new cabin air filter. Additional parts and repairs cost extra. Check the published prices and conditions before booking.
Is the inspection fee added on top of the regas price?
No. The inspection is included in the regas price. A standalone $119 inspection covers the call out fee, system pressure test, visual inspection, leak test as required, 15 minutes of diagnostics and a repair quote.
What does the R134a Regas Service include?
It includes the inspection, R134a refrigerant under 1,000 g, compressor oil and dye, and a performance test. Additional refrigerant, parts and repairs are charged separately. The cabin blower must be working. See the price list for the full conditions and extra charges.
What is different about Premium Regas?
Premium includes the R134a Regas Service and a new cabin air filter. It starts from $289. Ozone sanitising is included only in the separate $109 aircon cleaning add-on. Read about cabin air filters and how a blocked filter affects airflow.
Can I book a service for R1234YF air conditioning?
Yes. The published R1234YF service price is $459, including an inspection, refrigerant under 500 g and a performance test. It cannot be booked directly as a separate service: book an A/C Inspection and leave a comment stating that your vehicle requires R1234YF. Repairs and additional parts cost extra.
Booking and preparing for your visit
How long does the service take, and what does the three-hour slot mean?
The work usually takes around one hour. Our booking slots are three hours, and we are usually finished by the end of your booked slot. The slot is the booking window, rather than three hours of work on your vehicle. Diagnosis or repairs can take longer.
What access do you need to my car?
We need to park our service vehicle by your bonnet so we can access the air conditioning system and our equipment. Please leave enough space for the service vehicle beside the front of your car.
Do I need to provide electricity?
No. You do not need to provide power for our mobile air conditioning service.
Do you service my suburb?
Our advertised coverage focuses on Perth’s south-of-the-river suburbs. Check the SOR suburbs we service, then book online to find out about our availability in your suburb.
How do I book and confirm my appointment?
Use our online booking page and enter your service address and vehicle details. Use your own correct mobile number so you can complete the booking verification. Unverified bookings are deleted.
Cooling problems, repairs and regular servicing
How often should I service my car air conditioning?
We recommend a service every two years to help maintain peak performance in Perth’s demanding weather. If cooling becomes weak or a fault develops sooner, book an inspection rather than waiting for the next service.
My car aircon is not cold. Does it just need a regas?
Weak or warm airflow does not tell us the cause on its own. Refrigerant leaks, compressor faults and other problems can affect cooling. An aircon inspection and diagnosis helps establish what your system needs before repairs are quoted.
What happens if you find a refrigerant leak?
A refrigerant leak needs to be repaired before the system is regassed. Repairs and replacement parts are separate from the regas price. Our repair articles show examples of faults found in different vehicles.
Can you repair the air conditioning as well as regas it?
Yes. Our mobile repair services include diagnosis and work on components such as compressors, control valves, hoses, condensers and evaporators. Book an inspection for a repair quote. See our aircon repairs page for details, including the published 12-month repair warranty.
Cabin filters and aircon smells
Why does my aircon smell musty?
Your aircon has a limited natural self-cleaning action: the cabin filter catches airborne dirt, while condensation on the cold evaporator can rinse away some loose debris through the drain. A dirty or blocked filter, a dirty evaporator or a blocked drain can allow contamination to build up. If low refrigerant stops the evaporator getting cold enough, condensation can reduce or stop, reducing that rinsing action. Refrigerant loss can come from leaks, including a leaking evaporator, which needs diagnosis and repair. Damp contamination can still support mould and bacteria, causing musty smells. A regas alone does not remove established contamination. Read about our aircon cleaning and smell removal service.
Can I add aircon cleaning to my booking?
Aircon cleaning is a $109 add-on available with the Premium Regas Service. It covers evaporator and ducting cleaning, including ozone sanitising. Leave a comment when booking Premium Regas to request the cleaning add-on. Check the pricing page for the current inclusions.
When should I replace my cabin air filter?
Follow your vehicle manufacturer’s replacement interval and consider the conditions you drive and park in. Dust and leaf debris can clog the filter, reducing airflow and contributing to odours. Our Premium Regas Service includes a new cabin air filter; see the cabin filter guide for more information.
